We have some interesting workshops for Term 2 in 2021, again we will offer a Macrame workshop because the students are getting really good at the craft and there is always a great deal of interest. We will be celebrating Mother’s Day also this term and the students are always keen to make something for their mother. And, finally we are introducing a new jewellery workshop , creating a pendant using UV Resin.

23rd February, 2021
During the first couple of weeks of term 1 in the Cre8 Lab, the students were very excited to start the workshops with a Macramé clutch bag.
Always a popular workshop. Some of the girls are quite experienced in the art of knots, which was great for the new students, because they all help each other and kept the spirit up to finish their projects.
Macramé has made a return to fashion with a new age flare. It can be simple or complex and the students are beginning to experiment and personalise their designs more and more.

Last week and this week in the Makerspace the students have been madly creating their Macramé Pot Hangers. It is fantastic to see the students working together and helping each other learn new knots. They have a selection of colours to choose from and some of the girls have mixed two colours together to create something that is uniquely theirs.
Macramé is one of our most popular activities, and great to see such a vintage art becoming popular again.
Macramé is therapeutic in nature. Pulling and working of the cords helps to strengthen the hands and arms. It helps to loosen the joints. Some people find that macramé, an art of repetitive knots used to create designs is meditative bringing with it peace and calmness of mind.

The beginning of term 4 and the Cre8 Lab students are busy with the Macramé Pot Hanger Workshop. This is always very popular and is something that we try to improve each time we run the workshop, so that the students are developing their skills and creating more complex designs.
The younger students in the Makerspace are also interested in Macramé and have progressed from keyrings to a simple pot hanger this term.
Well done to all the girls who finished.

Watch the presentation below to see the workshops that are available for our year 7 to 12 students in the Cre8 Lab for term 4. It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of 2020, it has been an interesting and unfamiliar year. Our workshops provide the students with a creative outlet that is valuable for their wellbeing, and gives them a space where they can learn new things that they may not have a chance to do otherwise.
Researchers have found that people report being happy and energized when they are engaged in everyday creative endeavors, and that being in a positive mood goes hand in hand with creative thinking.
