During the week the students at the Cre8 Lab have been busy creating jewellery using wire, shells and beads. This workshop is always very popular and we try to have at least one a year for the students to practice. It gives the girls a chance to practice using tools and helps with their dexterity. As well as helping them think of the design process and planning ahead to create something they are happy with. It is alway great to see their progress and their creations improving as the week progresses.
The history of wire wrapped jewelry can be dated way back to 1446 BC. Researchers have found elements of wire jewelry in ancient pharaohs’ tombs and pyramids in Egypt. Early wire used for wire jewelry was made by metal that was pounded flat into sheets which were then cut into strips and rolled into tubes. It appears that gold was most likely the first metal used to make wire for wire wrapped jewelry, as it was easily hammered into thin sheets. https://www.wirejewelry.com/

Both the Cre8 Lab and the McAuley Makerspace have been busy this week with students creating 3D pop-out hearts and gift boxes for Galentine’s Day.
Since the creation of Galentine’s Day in 2010, All Hallows’ has embraced the tradition of celebrating this day, and appreciating the friendships that are made during the students school years.

This week is the first week back for the Cre8 lab workshops. Because it is the first term of 2020, we thought it would be nice to get the students interested in journalling.
Fun Facts:
- Bullet Journals or BUJO was first introduced to the public in 2013.
- It was developed by designer Ryder Carroll.
- It has become very popular on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
- Mood trackers, habit trackers, goal setting and gratitude logs have positive impacts on mental health.
During the week, the students have had a great time designing their journals, they started by decorating the covers with colourful materials and trims, then decided what type of entries they would like to have, after looking at a few samples. Once they had practiced the calligraphy on the practice sheets supplied, they were confident to start having some fun.
