Term 4, 2023
Makerspace is a fun collaborative space. A place to make new friends, try new equipment, a place be creative and curious. Students can come to Makerspace before school and at lunchtime. Each week we have an activity you can learn, or you can do your own creating and making.
Week 1 & 2 – Friendship Bracelets
To kick off Term 4 we made Friendships bracelets. Although learning the pattern may be challenging to begin with, once you get the hang of it, you can make them anywhere anytime. We’ve been making striped, chevron and beaded bracelets – multi coloured and in school colours.

Week 3 – Lego Spike Prime
LEGO Spike Prime Kit a fantastic tool for STEAM learning. The kit combines colourful LEGO construction with a programable multi-port hub and intuitive drag and drop coding language based on Scratch. This kit is a fabulous fun addition to our Makerspace providing creative learning opportunities, engaging students in critical thinking and problem solving – developing essential 21sxt century skills. We have also continued with making Friendship bracelets and creative monster families with pipe cleaners, pompoms and googly eyes.

Week 4 – Spiderweb Weaving
Makerspace is frightful with week with Creepy Crawly spider web weaving and Spooky Stories keeping us on the edge of our seats.

Week 5 – Spooky Stories
Our delightful drama teachers and library staff have been reading spooky stories this week in the library reading cave at lunchtime in week 5. Helped with costumes, candles and very enthusiastic student participation – we have heard some spinetingling spooky stories.

Week 6 – Felt Bookmarks
We have Christmas all wrapped up. This week we have been making gift bookmarks – felt hearts edged with a blanket stitch that fit neatly onto the corner of a page. We’ve been upcycling old books to make bows for the top of presents and upcycling catalogues to make Christmas tree tabletop ornaments and using off-cuts to make glitter foam bows.

Week 7 & 8 – Christmas Craft
In the wind down to school holidays we have been making Christmas cards for teachers and friends and enjoying fiction talks to inspire Holiday reading. Just 20 minutes of reading a day can make a huge contribution to our academic performance, vocabulary, critical thinking, writing skills, our ability to socialize and most importantly our wellbeing. Happy Holidays!
