Workshop #4, Term 3, 2023

Workshop participants rounded off this term with a fun gift for Father’s Day.

Using a special photo transfer medium, students took a favourite printed photo and coated it with the medium before sticking it face down onto a ceramic coaster. Once dry, they rubbed the paper off with a damp sponge, leaving the reverse image transferred onto the surface of the coaster and then sealed it, ready for use.

It’s been a busy term with interruptions and assessments, making the calm and relaxing environment of CRE8 Lab such a welcome reprieve from the pressures of everyday school life. We love seeing the students’ happy faces and the excitement that comes from having created something with their own hands.

Workshop #2, Term 3, 2023

CRE8 Lab recently ran a workshop in creating vinyl die-cut stickers with our library Cricut machine, and it was so popular with the library staff, that they decided to join in too!

Students started out by designing their stickers in Canva, before running their choice of coloured adhesive vinyl through the Cricut and transferring it to their drink bottles and laptops.

Workshop #1, Term 3, 2023

CRE8 Lab students eagerly embraced the new term with another exciting weaving project. This time, their mission was to upcycle ordinary paper coffee cups into charming and eco-friendly baskets using rustic jute string. The goal was not only to learn the art of weaving but also to promote sustainability by reimagining everyday materials in innovative ways.

The weaving process taught them the value of attention to detail and the importance of maintaining a tight weaving technique.

To add the finishing touch to their handcrafted baskets, the students embarked on the second part of the project – creating a posy of mini paper flowers to place inside. The classroom blossomed with an array of colours as the students carefully created and arranged their floral creations.

Workshop #4, Term 2, 2023

For the last workshop of this term, CRE8 Lab students undertook a mindful activity, weaving woolen bookmarks on a frame loom.

Learning the fundamentals of how cloth is made, and utilising warp and weft threads, students created beautiful and useful bookmarks to keep the place in their favourite reads.

It was wonderful to see their unique designs and personalities shine through this simple craft. CRE8 Lab aims to introduce participants to artisanal crafts in ways that allows them to learn life skills in an interesting and entertaining manner.
