On the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd August, we welcomed a lovely mix of students, parents, grandparents and one very lucky aunt, to the library for our Term 3 Year 5/6 Book Club.
After listening to a summary of our chosen book, Sea Glass by Rebecca Fraser, guests were treated to a relaxing presentation involving a show and tell featuring some real sea glass collected by Library Assistant, Mrs Kate Carey, on a recent trip to Croatia. Students then participated in a Q & A session, choosing random questions to answer with their guest, enabling lively discussions with the rest of their groups.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Memory Book activity, mirroring the storyline of the book, whereby students drew a record of a special memory that they shared with their guest.
We are looking forward to inviting new and returning attendees to our next book club in Term 4 to discuss the book Bindi written by Kirli Saunders and illustrated by David Leffler.

Our Year 5 students recently had the pleasure of listening to middle-grade author Kate Foster speak about writing and how she came up with the ideas for her books. She has spent her life writing and only recently entered the publishing world.
Kate’s focus is on writing books about diversity: especially autism and creating characters that have differences, encouraging these differences to be celebrated.
Dogs also hold a special place in her heart, and she won all the students over with her stories about her dogs. She also had friends take picture of their dogs which she used as a jumping off point to create magical tales about the adventures those dogs had. Demonstrating that we can use what is around us to create engaging stories.

The middle of the year is upon us, and that means it’s time for another Staff Breakfast and Bookchat!
Over croissants and coffee, our AHS staff were introduced to some great new titles in our collection, along with library staff picks. They also enjoyed the opportunity to have a lively chat about recent reads, and audiobooks with fellow colleagues.
We loved seeing so many of our staff sharing their love of books and can’t wait to do it all again at the end of the year. Will you be joining us?
